UPDATE: Kingsport man indicted for car wash crash
A Kingsport, TN man has been indicted after toxicology reports showed he had several drugs in his system at the time of a serious crash at a Colonial Heights car wash last year.
Dwane Larry Whitfield, Jr., 38, was arrested Monday and is charged with reckless aggravated assault, vehicular assault, driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license, according to a Kingsport Police Department report.
The incident took place on March 10 when Whitfield was operating a pickup truck and pulling it into a drying area of Southern Classic Car Wash. The truck then pinned another employee into an embankment, leaving him with serious but non-life threatening injuries the report said.
Whitfield consented to a blood test that revealed no alcohol in his system. However, the TBI results received last summer showed the suspect had taken multiple prescription medications, including Nordiazepam, Clonazepam, 7-Amino Clonazepam, Subutex, and Norbuprenorphine, according to investigators.
Whitfield is free after posting a $5,000 bond.
