UPDATE: Sonya Babb ruled insane, not guilty of killing father

All parties agreed in Criminal Court on Monday that Sonya Babb is insane and as a result, is not guilty of the killing of her father, a retired constable in Carter County, Tennessee.

A court order has been entered in that regard.

Now Babb, who remains in custody, will face an August 2 hearing on how long she will be committed to a mental health institute or hospital.

The killing of her father, Kenneth Younce, happened in January 2016.

Authorities said Babb shot and killed him in his home in front of other family members.

Court records show they had just taken Babb to a hospital for help the night before. Those records say she was sent home and referred to follow up with her doctor.
