Woman facing burglary, drug charges in Carter County
A woman is behind bars after police say she burglarized a home and then rammed a vehicle trying to get away.
According to the Elizabethton Police Department, 45-year-old Stacey Hatley has been charged with aggravated burglary, driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident, theft of property, and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
Police said that around 10 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 200 block of West K Street. The callers had returned to their home and noticed an unknown vehicle in the driveway. They saw a light on in the house and a woman walk from the rear of the home. Witnesses said the woman entered her vehicle in the driveway and began ramming the homeowner's vehicle in attempts to leave. The woman reportedly backed up several times until she was able to exit the driveway through the front yard and while entering the street, struck another vehicle.
Shortly after responding to the scene, officers found a vehicle matching the description on a nearby street, backed in between two houses. The vehicle had significant damage and officers found Hatley trying to hide underneath the rear of the vehicle, and she was detained.
Police added that Hatley admitted she was inside the house, but denied taking any items, and gave a different statement regarding how the vehicle was damaged. At that time, officers found a television, which was determined to be stolen, inside the vehicle. Hatley was taken into custody and was found to be in possession of two stolen pipes.
Hatley was booked into the Carter County Jail.
