2 in custody after police chase in southwest Virginia


UPDATE 1:45 p.m.

News 5 has learned new information about a police chase Friday.

According to Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman, at least one of the suspects was reportedly spotted by deputies as he tried to break into a home and then fled the scene in a vehicle.

The pursuit began in the northwest section of Washington County, according to authorities, and then stretched into the town of Saltville, where town officers also assisted in trying to stop the suspect.

The chase ended along Route 91 in Smyth County after the vehicle ran through several cattle gates. The two suspects were caught by deputies after they exited the vehicle and took off on foot.
