Abingdon intersection closed due to tractor-trailer incident
An incident involving a tractor-trailer hauling a flatbed trailer with a bulldozer has shut down a popular intersection in Abingdon, Va.
According to Abingdon officials, Russell Road from Route 19 to Main St. is closed. Additionally, West Valley St. to Cummings St. is closed. It is estimated they will not reopen until at least 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
Officials added that a tractor-trailer pulling a flatbed trailer hauling a bulldozer went to make a right turn and clipped a power pole. The pole split in half and the truck is currently holding the pole up. The town is waiting on Appalachian Electric Power to come install a new pole. All traffic lights at the intersection will then need to be wired to the new pole.
