The Virginia Department of Forestry is offering up to a $2,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction in connection with several Buchanan County fires which were set deliberately.

Officials suspect several wildfires have occurred since Thanksgiving were caused deliberately. The fires, which are being treated as arson cases, occurred in the Guesses Fork area. Multiple fires have been located near the state road and off of ATV trails in the woods.

"We believe these incidents are related," said Rocky Wood, VDOF's lead investigator. "And likely these fires are related to multiple fires in past years in similar locations. We're asking that anyone with information who could assist us in our investigation to please come forward and help us bring the responsible party to justice."

VDOF asks that you call them at 276-329-5428 if you have any information.

Woods arson is a felony crime and if convicted, a person could serve up to five years in prison, pay a $2,500 fine, and be liable for the cost of suppressing the fire.
