Alabama man arrested on federal drug charges in Washington County, Va.
An Alabama man is facing felony drug charges after police say they found several large plastic bags of what appeared to be marijuana in a vehicle parked behind the exit 10 Shell station in Washington County, Virginia.
According to Sheriff Fred Newman, 38-year-old Benjamin Paul Smart was arrested early Tuesday after a deputy approached the vehicle and noticed an odor of marijuana. The deputy searched the vehicle and found the bags as well as several items of drug paraphernalia.
Smart was charged with possession with intent to distribute more than one-half ounce but less than five pounds of marijuana. He was taken to jail in Abingdon and released on a $1,500 bond.
