Cleanup continues in Russell County head-on crash
Cleanup continues in a head-on crash which occurred in Russell County back on Monday.
According to Russell County Emergency and Hazardous Materials Coordinator Jess Powers, an empty tractor-trailer and a Ford F-150 pickup collided head-on near 1600 Gravel Lick Road around 7:50 a.m. Monday.
The driver of the pickup was extricated from the vehicle and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer came to rest on its side in Gravel Lick Creek, spilling about 75 gallons of diesel fuel in the creek.
Wreckers removed the pickup and pulled the tractor-trailer back to the road while HAZMAT responders cleaned up the accident scene.
A Tuesday inspection showed a small sheen of diesel fuel where the tractor-trailer came to rest. The booms and absorption materials downstream are capturing the residual diesel fuel. A sheen was not present from the lower six boomed areas in Gravel Lick Creek.
