Former BB&T manager sentenced for stealing cash out of SW Virginia vaults

A Roanoke woman and former regional manager for BB&T was sentenced to 14 months in prison after admitting to taking thousands of dollars from several regional branches in Southwest Virginia.

Melissa D. Huffman, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and has already paid back $31,850 to the establishment, according to a report from U.S. District Court in Abingdon.

Prosecutors said between 2014 and December 2016 Huffman took money from vaults at six different banks including a Tazewell location and attributed the shortages to subordinate employees.
