Local union fears staff reduction at USP Lee
LEE COUNTY, Va. —
A union representing government employees across the country and right here in the Tri-Cities said the Bureau of Prisons is initiating a staff reduction.
In a letter, the president of the American Federal Government Employees, Local 1405 said a reduction will bring total staff from 427 to 365 at the USP Lee. According to the letter, it is part of 6,000 position eliminations at federal prisons across the country.
According to the BOP, the facility has a total of more than 14-hundred inmates.
We have reached out to the BOP and USP Lee and have yet not heard back.
We have included excerpts of the letters we received. We are working to post the letters in their entirety.
