Man charged with attempted first degree murder after Norton shooting
A Norton man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after a shooting incident Sunday morning.
Norton Police Chief James Lane said officers got a call around 5:45 am in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound at Norton Community Hospital.
The female victim was flown to another hospital where she underwent surgery.
Police say she sustained severe and possibly permanent injuries to one of her hands and chest area.
Gregory Ernest Milam was charged with attempted first degree murder, reckless handling of a firearm, discharge of a firearm inside an occupied dwelling, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and aggravated malicious wounding.
He is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield.
Police are have not released the identity or the condition of the victim.
