Marion announces Grand Marshals of Kaleidoscope Parade

The Town of Marion's annual Christmas parade will have a patriotic twist. Former VFW Post 4667 Commander Herbert "Turk" Johnson and his wife Penny have been selected as the Grand Marshals for this Friday's 6:30pm event.

Johnson served in the US Air Force from 1957 -1989, stationed primarily in Lackland ATB in Texas, with 13 months in Korea, 6 months in the UK, eighteen months in Okinawa, and a year in Vietnam. He joined the Marion VFW Post in 1981, and served seven years as Post Commander from 2007-2014, representing Marion across the United States. Turk is Senior Vice Commander of District 9 VFW.

Turk married his wife Penny in 1956, and she has served as Treasurer of the VFW Auxiliary since 2007, and currently serve as President of the District 9 VFW Auxiliary.

Both remain active in the local VFW Post, and enjoy traveling. They volunteer for a variety of community events, including RAM, their church, and other events.

The Marion Kaleidoscope Christmas Parade is part of this weekend's holiday kickoff weekend. The Marion Christmas Market, the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, live concerts featuring bluegrass legends Dailey & Vincent and "Christmas along the Crooked Road" at the Lincoln Theatre, carriage rides, extended shopping hours, special downtown menus at local eateries, and more.
