UPDATE 10:30 a.m. Wednesday

News 5 obtained word from the Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning that the agency hopes to release additional information on a double homicide around noon.

Authorities are working toward identifying the victims and providing information in regards to the suspect.

We will have the latest as it becomes available.


UPDATE, 10:15 p.m.

Sheriff Fred Newman has released a few more details surrounding the death of two people on Flatwood Acres Road earlier this afternoon.

A knife and handgun were found inside the residence and investigators say the house was in "disarray," he noted.

Police continue to look for a suspect developed as a person of interest early on in the investigation. A family member was the one who contacted police about the discovery of the bodies, Newman said.


UPDATE, 8:30 p.m.

Sheriff Fred Newman says the general public is safe but the murder of two people near Chilhowie was not a random act, News 5's Tiana Bohner reports.

A suspect is still being sought in the case and Newman says a person of interest has been identified by investigators, Newman said.

The bodies were discovered just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.


Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman confirming two people have been found murdered in a home.

Deputies responded just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to the home on Flatwood Acres Road near Chilhowie.

They are looking for a suspect and the Virginia State Police is assisting in the search and investigation, Newman told News 5.

No further details are available at this time.
