Motor Mile Speedway near Radford not renewing NASCAR sanction for 2018
Citing declining attendance, officials at Motor Mile Speedway near Radford have announced they will not renew their 2018 NASCAR sanction.
The official statement issued by track personnel says attendance at the Southwest Virginia oval is mirroring national trends of consumer interest and attendance drops in NASCAR and will look at other forms of entertainment for fans next year at their 170-acre campus.
"We have lots of ideas but there's no story yet. We are sitting around the table now and hashing it out," said co-owner David Hagan in the statement. "We have tried to make the speedway successful, but with a downturn in interest, it's increasingly difficult to make it work. We are looking at a variety of events to bring new life and excitement to the property."
