Plans for $40 million shopping center in Washington County, Va. called off
Plans for a $40 million shopping center near exit 7 in Washington County, Virginia have been called off.
The development was going to be along Lee Highway near Clear Creek Road. Last summer, plans were announced for a Publix grocery store to move in.
The development was expected to create 400 jobs and bring in revenues of $11 million over next 15 years.
Washington County Administrator Jason Berry confirmed the developer wasn't able to secure any more retailers. The developer has given the property back to the realtor. Berry added he doesn't know what will happen there next.
Berry also said the county is still focused on bringing in more manufacturing or retail opportunities. Berry said sales tax is the third largest revenue generator for the county.
