Residential shooting, one person in critial condition
SMYTH COUNTY, VA - Police officers and Smyth County deputies responded to a possible break-in at a home on Cemetery Street in Marion. When they arrived, they found the resident of the home and another person who had been shot twice.
"The resident was still at the house, gunshots had been fired and one person had been injured. Officers later found a suspect that was suffering from two gunshot wounds. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Smyth County Community Hospital," says Marion public information officer, Ken Heath.
Jessica Sheetz is the resident's wife. She says there was an initial break-in earlier.
"You can't even open the door, the house is tossed, the furniture is upside down, but nothing made any sense, everything is still here," Sheetz says.
Later when she left to go to the store, she says an intruder-- or intruders, returned. She says her husband was the only person at home.
"I'm getting a phone call telling me cops are here, the guy's been shot, he tried to rob the place again, my husband is in handcuffs covered in blood," Sheetz says.
The investigation is still on-going, and charges are expected to be filed. More information will be released as it becomes available.
