Sheriff: Man dead following domestic disturbance in Wise County

According to investigators, one man is dead after allegedly shooting at his wife through a locked door Saturday in Wise County.

Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes said that a woman called 911 from a house on Indian Creek Road. The woman said she was physically assaulted by her husband, 60-year-old Scottie Lynn Hamilton, and he was in the bedroom loading a gun. The woman hid in the bathroom with the door locked, and two shots were fired through the door.

A deputy arrived on scene and was able to get the woman outside safely. An officer then arrived and heard a gunshot come from inside the house. The deputy and officer were able to get the woman to a safe location.

Authorities then set up a containment around the home and a negotiator arrived and tried to make contact with Hamilton for about one hour by cellphone and PA system. Investigators said all negotiations were unsuccessful.

A sheriff's response team used a robot to enter the home and conduct a search. Hamilton was found on the bed with no response. The team made entry to secure him and the home and found that Hamilton was dead from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The Wise County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigative Division is in charge of the investigation which is pending upon receipt of medical examiner reports.
