Southwest VA stars part of new BCM Museum exhibit
A new exhibit at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum opens Tuesday and its focus is "Hometown Stars" like Dock Boggs and Jack Reedy & His Walker Mountain Stringband.
The traveling exhibit from the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum at Ferrum College focuses on the region's music recording legacy from 1923 to 1943. A collection of photographs and artifacts are part of the new attraction, according to information from the BCMM.
"It's a way to sort of deepen their understanding of the context of how those 1927 Bristol Sessions came to be in this area, like what brought Ralph Peer here with the Victor Recording Company in 1927, was the fact that there was so much talent down here," said Rene Rogers, Curator of Exhibits.
The display runs through June 4.
