Southwest Virginia sees unemployment drop in 2017
Every Southwest Virginia locality in our designated market area saw a percentage drop in unemployment in 2017, according to data from the Virginia Employment Commission.
The ten localities saw an average unemployment drop of 1.95 percent. Buchanan County had the biggest percentage drop at 3.2 percent, but was tied with Dickenson County for the highest December unemployment rate in the region at 6.6 percent.
Scott County had the lowest unemployment rate in the region in December at 3.4 percent.
