Three coal companies file suit against Wise County over tax assessments
A civil suit filed in Wise County Circuit Court by three coal-related companies is asking for more than half-a-million dollars in refunds and reductions after claims of over-billing and incorrect tax assessments by the Commissioner of Revenue and Treasurer's offices.
A copy of the suit obtained by News 5 says the tax tickets in question are for a three-year period beginning in 2014 and they are for the companies A&G Coal Corporation, Nine Mile Mining and Virginia Fuel Corporation.
The operations are owned by the family of current West Virginia Governor and billionaire Jim Justice and are based in Roanoke.
The lawsuit deals specifically with the machinery and tool and personal property taxes for the three businesses.
