TRAFFIC: Street closures being put in place for Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion
Preparations were being made downtown on Thursday for this weekend's Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion by police and public works officials.
Commuters and consumers will need to plan ahead before heading to businesses or work on Friday due to the change in traffic patterns.
The following streets and parking lots will be closed at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15:State Street between Volunteer Parkway/Commonwealth Avenue and the Trainstation parking lot entrance east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; Ralph Peer Street between State Street and one-half block south of State Street;\ 8th Street between State Street and one-half block south of State Street; 7th Street between State Street and Broad Street; 6th Street between State Street and Shelby Street; Bank Street between State Street and one-half block south of State Street; 5th Street between State Street and Shelby Street; Shelby Street from east of 8th Street to the parking lot entrance west of 6th Street; Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard between Shelby Street and Cumberland Street; Carter Family Way between State Street and the driveway south of Goode Street; Stoneman Family Drive; Piedmont Avenue between State Street and Goode Street; Moore Street between State Street and Winston Alley; Lee Street between State Street and the Beaver Creek bridge; Cumberland Street between Moore Street and the parking lot entrances just west of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; Goode Street between Carter Family Way and Piedmont Avenue; Winston Alley between Piedmont Avenue and a point just west of Merchants Alley. The median opening at Volunteer Parkway and Shelby Street, and the median opening on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard at the jail driveway/driveway to the Trainstation parking lot north of Cumberland Street, will also be closed at this time. In addition, no left turns will be permitted during this time from westbound Goode Street to southbound Commonwealth Avenue. Southbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard motorists in Virginia will be encouraged to turn at West Mary Street and required to turn at Scott Street; access south of there to the jail parking lot, Trainstation parking lot, and WCYB will be maintained to those locations with the appropriate permissions only. Finally, the Cumberland Square Park parking lot and the municipal parking lot on the west side of Stoneman Family Drive will be closed during this period.
The streets will remain closed until the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 18, the agencies reported.
