UPDATE: Bribe charge against former SW VA jail officer bound over to grand jury
Charges against a former Southwest Virginia Regional Jail correctional officer were bound over to a grand jury following a preliminary hearing held on Tuesday in federal court in Abingdon.
Justin Andrew Brown, 23, of Lebanon, Va., was arrested last March and is charged with conspiring to accept a bribe as a public official and provide an inmate of a prison a prohibited object, accepting a bribe and attempt to possess with intent to distribute, according to court records.
Probable cause was found during Brown's hearing before Magistrate Judge Pamela Sergeant, including details from prosecutors about Brown supplying a federal inmate being housed in the Abingdon facility with pornography, marijuana and tobacco products in exchange for thousands of dollars.
Brown remains free on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
