UPDATE: Former Lee Co. penitentiary guard acquitted on federal charge
A former guard at a U.S. Penitentiary in Lee County, Virginia was acquitted on a federal charge following a two-day trial in Big Stone Gap.
Joseph Collins was found not guilty on one count of making a false statement and using a false writing in a matter within the executive branch of the U.S., according to court documents.
Collins was indicted in June after prosecutors said he submitted a false document concerning an inmate's urine test. His attorney told News 5 in a statement that it took the jury less than 15 minutes to reach a verdict in the case on Wednesday.
