UPDATE: Former regional jail guards indicted for contraband, bribes
Two former jail guards were indicted by a grand jury Monday on federal contraband and bribery charges.
The jury in U.S. District Court in Abingdon returned a four-count indictment against Justin Andrew Brown and Robert Lewis Jones, both of Lebanon, Virginia, who were the subject of a two-month investigation that culminated in their arrest in March 2016.
Court documents obtained by News 5 say Jones acted as a lookout while Brown smuggled in tobacco products, drugs, money and sexually explicit pictures to a federal inmate lodged in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon.
The report also said that prosecutors are seeking a monetary judgment of $15,000 in the case.
Brown had his charges bound over to the grand jury following proceedings held last week.
