UPDATE: Man pleads guilty in home invasion, rape case
A Washington County, Virginia man was sentenced to life plus 35 years Thursday after pleading guilty to breaking into a victim's home and raping her.
A Circuit Court judge gave Joshua Kyle Jackson, 26, a life sentence on the rape charge with an additional 20 years for burglary, 10 years for abduction and five years for unlawful wounding for the September 2015 home invasion.
Police said Jackson forced his way into the home located on Porterfield Highway and hit the victim in the head with a piece of wood. He later tied her hands together and sexually assaulted her, the report said.
The victim was able to escape when she told Jackson she had to go to work and when they stopped at a convenience store, the victim left Jackson there and she drove to the Sheriff's Office to report the crime. He was arrested later at his home.
