UPDATE: Murder victim identified in Russell County, person of interest in custody
Russell County Sheriff Steve Dye has identified the victim in a Sunday homicide near Castlewood.
The body of Santana Danielle Hale, 29, has been sent to the state medical examiner's office in Roanoke for an autopsy, Dye confirmed to News 5 on Monday.
Dye noted Monday morning that the person of interest has been arrested on unrelated charges and in custody but he said their identity is not being released at this time as the investigation continues.
The incident occurred on 142 Boyd Street in the Red Oak Ridge community of Castlewood.
The Wise County Sheriff's Office is also searching for a piece of evidence possibly connected to the case. The report said a pair of black and red Air Jordans were seen in two locations- one shoe was spotted on Bear Creek Road in Norton and the other on Route 58 just before the Norton city limits. Both shoes were gone by 1 p.m. Sunday.
The sheriff said that the shoes could have been worn by the suspect and could have DNA evidence.
