UPDATE: Owner of Castlewood funeral parlor waives indictment, pleads guilty
The owner of a Castlewood funeral parlor that was leveled by a fire three years ago pleaded guilty to a federal charge in U.S. District Court in Abingdon on Thursday.
Court documents show Michael Paul Riebe waived his indictment and entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors. He was originally charged with five counts of wire fraud and one count of mail fraud.
The agreement says that Riebe and his current wife will not be prosecuted for arson or insurance fraud connected to the October 2014 fire at Holding Funeral Home. He will be sentenced for one count of illegal transfer of property on Feb. 28.
Riebe could receive up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
