UPDATE: Police investigating unsecured, lost narcotics carried by Glade Spring Lifesaving Crew
A volunteer ambulance organization in Glade Spring just stripped of its service area is now the subject of a police investigation into possible missing narcotics.
Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman confirmed to News 5 on Thursday that a probe has been launched after information given to investigators suggests drugs carried on the ambulances of the Glade Spring Volunteer Life Saving Crew were not properly secured or are missing.
Three other squads are now having to run service calls in Glade Spring because of the decision by Board of Supervisors to revoke the service area after a recommendation by emergency management officials.
The county is now requesting bids from ambulance service vendors who can provide advanced life support services for the town of Glade Spring. The deadline for bids is noon Friday.
