UPDATE: Reward for info on murder suspect Eric Jones increases to $5,000
Eight months ago, U.S. Marshals widened the national dragnet for Wise County murder suspect Eric Jones with no results. The agency is now increasing reward money for information on his whereabouts.
That reward is now doubled to $5,000 for details on Jones- the ex-husband of Janina Jefferson who was found shot to death nearly one year ago at her workplace in Appalachia.
Jefferson had taken out a restraining order against Jones a few months before her death after the suspect tried to strangle her. She was granted a divorce from Jones in September 2016.
Police said Jones' girlfriend's son Jacob Rowland drove Jones to an access road near the Appalachia Water Plant where Jefferson was working and dropped him off the night of the murder. Rowland is facing five charges including acting as an accessory to murder.
The Jefferson murder case is now the subject of an episode of "Crime Watch Daily" which is scheduled to air Thursday at 3 p.m. on our sister station Fox Tri-Cities WEMT.
