U.S. Senator Warner talks drones in Big Stone Gap
Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap has a unique program, training students to use drone technology.
The program is the first of its kind in Virginia.
Senator Mark Warner came to the community college to encourage students and faculty and witness them in action test driving drones.
Warner supports government investments in drones, driverless cars and other unmanned vehicle.
"This is for search and rescue. This can be for delivery of packages. We had one of the first deliveries, actually, of medicine at the RAM clinic a few years back. This is a chance for this region to be at the forefront of what I think is going to be one of the great technological advances of the next decade," Warner said.
Mountain Empire students not only learn to fly drones, they also to design and build them, and maintain them.
Warner also stopped by Studio Brew in Bristol to announce the launch of the Southwest Virginia Brew Trail.
