Bristol Virginia Judge Kurt Pomrenke is reportedly no longer sitting on the bench, an official with the Virginia Supreme Court told News 5 on Friday.

Pomrenke, convicted Wednesday of criminal contempt of court in federal court in Abingdon, is "no longer hearing cases" according to the executive secretary of court's office.

The judge and former member of the Bristol Virginia Utilities board presided over juvenile and domestic relations court in the city of Bristol and in Smyth and Washington counties.

His legal troubles were based on his actions as part of the defense team for his wife Stacey Pomrenke last summer when she was also tried and convicted in federal court in the BVU corruption trial.

Judge Pomrenke is scheduled to go before the court's Judicial Inquiry and Review Commission next month for a misconduct hearing on charges that he tampered with witnesses during his wife's trial.
