Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp wants Governor Terry McAuliffe and other officials subpoenaed so they can testify in five lawsuits filed by convicted felons who want their gun rights restored.

McAuliffe, current Lt. Gov. and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam and Secretary of the Commonwealth Kelly Thomasson are all named in a hearing notice filed Thursday in Circuit Court by Slemp to request a judge hear the requests for subpoena. The hearing is scheduled for next Thursday.

Slemp said McAuliffe and his administration have been vocal about the restoration of rights to felons and their testimony is needed in the discovery motion phase of the suits filed by the five felons in Wise County.

Those felons have convictions for crimes such as breaking and entering, malicious wounding and abduction.
