Wise County couple arrested on numerous theft charges
A Coeburn couple was arrested Tuesday and is facing numerous charges, including 11 counts of grand larceny, according to Russell County Sheriff Steve Dye.
John Matthew McCoy, 36, and 28-year-old Diana Nicole Akers were arrested. Both are facing 11 counts of grand larceny, two counts of grand larceny with the intent to sell or distribute, two counts of identity theft, one count of credit card fraud, and one count of conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to commit grand larceny.
Investigators said multiple thefts had occurred involving farm equipment, vehicles, and offenses related to credit card fraud and identity theft. Both are being held on a secured bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon. They have pending court dates in Russell County Circuit Court.
Sheriff Dye added that the Virginia State Police, Coeburn Police Department, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Motor Vehicles Investigation Division all assisted in the investigation.
