NASCAR Hall of Fame member Bud Moore dead at 92


NASCAR Hall of Fame member, car owner and World War II veteran Bud Moore passed away Monday night at the age of 92, according to a report from the association.

Drivers including the late Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Allison, David Pearson and Geoff Bodine raced in the Moore stable during their careers. He fielded cars in NASCAR's top series from 1961 to 2000, winning the Cup title in 1962-63 with the late Joe Weatherly.

Moore, a native of South Carolina, also served in the war with an attachment unit under Gen. George Patton. He was a machine gunner and earned five Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for his service, according to a NASCAR statement.

He was inducted into the hall of fame in 2011. Moore's only win at Bristol Motor Speedway as a car owner came with Weatherly in 1961.
