UVa-Wise falls on the road at WVWU
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - West Virginia Wesleyan came out on top of a low scoring affair in a 10-7 win against UVa-Wise at Cebe Ross Field. The Bobcats grabbed a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Tyler Fischer hit a 36-yard field goal with 11:09 on the clock and Aman Speed Jr. recovered a fumble and ran it back 41-yards with 1:53 left in the quarter to give West Virginia Wesleyan the momentum early in the contest. The Cavaliers got on the board with 13:31 left in the game after Von Purvis' eight-yard touchdown run. The score capped an eight-play, 50-yard drive. West Virginia Wesleyan held UVa-Wise scoreless for the remainder of the contest and managed to run down the clock to earn the win. UVa-Wise (4-3, 4-3) totaled 306 offensive yards with West Virginia Wesleyan (3-4, 3-3) piling up 275 over the course of the contest. Brycen Lee completed 14 of 34 pass attempts for 133 yards and Jarome Johnson added one 18-yard pass, contributing to 151 yards in the air on the day for the Cavaliers. Purvis tallied 54 yards on 14 carries with the lone score of the day for UVa-Wise. Jarome Johnson added four carries for 36 yards. Jacob Cousins tallied four receptions for 62 yards on the afternoon while Kaian Duverger followed with three catches for 30 yards. Luke Casey completed 14 of 27 pass attempts for 146 yards for the Bobcats. He found Kenny Lewis Jr. seven times for 71 yards and Jerel English five times for 42 yards. Dante Satcher picked up 70 yards on 11 carries with English adding 34 yards on five carries. Defensively, Kwadwo Diawuo notched seven tackles for UVa-Wise with Chris White adding six stops, four tackles for loss (16 yards) and one sack. Keith Johnson paced West Virginia Wesleyan with five solo tackles, a pass breakup and an interception. Speed Jr. recovered two fumbles for 41 yards and one score and tallied two sacks on the afternoon.
