13-year-old training at Lake Placid already four years into pursuit of Olympic glory

For many of the athletes on Team USA much of the training happens in Lake Placid; that's where NBC3 met a 13 year old who is showing great promise in the luge.

For the Olympic athletes competing in South Korea this month the work to become world class began years ago.

For many of the athletes on Team USA much of the training happens in Lake Placid; that's where NBC3 met a 13 year old who is showing great promise in the luge.

Jeffery Sickler lives long stretches away from his family as part of the Olympic Development Luge Program.

"I was skiing at my local mountain. and USA Luge brought some plastic sleds and I met a local Olympian from my hometown. I asked a few questions about getting started. After a year or two I made the team," he said.

That was four years ago. Now he balances school work, hours of training and speeding down a track at 60 miles per hour.
