Gravity waves put on a show in parts of our area Friday morning
Did you happen to see the clouds in the above picture Friday morning? If you didn't, chances are you have before.
What causes this interesting look in the clouds, though?
It's kind of like when you throw a pebble into a pond and the water ripples out from the pebble.
The air is being forced UP (often by the mountains) into a stable atmosphere that then forces the air back DOWN. This continuous up and down motion leads to the waviness that you see in the picture. Air going UP leads to clouds and air going DOWN leads to clear sky.
We've broken this down previously in this video.
