Large Hail Hits Southwest Virginia on 5-5-2018
Strong and severe storms produced damage and large hail across parts of our region on Saturday. The strongest hit counties were Dickenson and Buchanan Counties, but small hail was seen in many communities region wide.
Check out the size of some of this hail! That's golf ball sized or larger in some cases!
Hail of this size requires quite a strong updraft of winds going up in the storm to keep it up in the storm. Once the hail becomes too heavy for the winds to keep it up anymore, it falls to the ground.
