Rain continues at times on Sunday
Periods of rain are still possible as a cold front passes east of the area later this evening.
It's not until after dinner time that we see this swath of rain moving east and out of the WCYB viewing area. It may very well be that we finish the Food City 500 under the lights. Be sure to follow News 5 WCYB on Twitter for live updates.
Keep in mind that with downpours in the area, rain totals will likely exceed an inch for areas mainly east of Kingsport. This will likely cause some creeks and streams to rise and for some flood-prone/low-lying areas to see some standing water. We don't anticipate many river issues, though.
We also don't expect the Earhart Campground to flood like it did last year. Last spring race, we received twice the amount of rain that we're expecting this time around.
After the front passes Sunday evening, colder air rides in on a gusty, northwest wind. Highs on Monday will only be in the low to mid 40s! Some snow showers will be around during the day, mainly leading to a light accumulation on mountain tops! Crazy!
Be sure to check back for updates. You can download the StormTrack 5 Mobile App, while you're out and about on Sunday. That way, you can get the latest radar and alerts, should any be issued.
