Rain and some spring snow Saturday (4/7/18)
A pretty dynamic storm system will be coming this weekend with a chance for some Spring snow!
Temperatures in SW VA will stay cold for much of today- with highs struggling to climb out of the 30s.
In the afternoon, moisture approaches our region from the west. This will result in scattered snow showers.
The most snow will likely fall in the higher elevations of Wise County and Russell County. A light accumulation is possible in the mountains of TN, NC and SW VA. The snow will be scattered, so not everyone will see it but those who get luckjy (or unlucky) will!
Snow in the daytime has a hard time accumulating on warm and wet surfaces, especially blacktop and concrete.
That's why we see the best chance of accumulation being on the grass and cartops. Some mountain backroads that usually get less sunlight may become snow-covered at times on Saturday.
Temps in the 20s Saturday night may lead to slick spots. Most any travel in the Tri-Cities and in the areas should be just fine. Later in the evening, there may be a few snowy patches on the TN/NC line.
