JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) - The business manager of a Johnson City pawn shop has been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident involving New Panthers members on Monday.
A group of New Panthers wanted to buy guns from the shop but the manager, identified as Daryl Lovelace, asked the group to leave.
An argument then took place, according to police. The police report said Lovelace tried to block more people from entering the store, but when a woman tried to exit the store, Lovelace grabbed her and spun her to the ground.
Members of New Panthers were outside the pawn shop protesting for eight to nine hours Monday, wanting police to charge Lovelace. Some protesters returned to the pawn shop on West Walnut Street early Tuesday.
Lovelace was not arrested, but instead was issued a criminal summons.
