Tennessee governor Bill Haslam is touring the state to welcome students participating in the Tennessee Promise program back to school.
The program offers free tuition to state two-year colleges for anyone who graduates high school.
Haslam visited Columbia State Community College in Franklin. The visit comes after Tennessee leaders announced that the state led the nation in Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filings.
Haslam mentioned the high rates show an improvement in students' desire to pursue higher education.
