Shooting reported in Greeneville; schools placed on lockdown

UPDATE, 5:30 p.m.

A total of four suspects are being sought by police following a shots-fired incident at a Greeneville home that sent one person to the hospital.

Police responded to a residence on Tennessee Avenue when 911 received a call from an eyewitness who heard gunshots.

According to the official report provided to WCYB by Greeneville police, a male victim was transported to the hospital with severe lacerations.

No one was shot during the altercation but a vehicle on the property was struck by stray bullets in what police have classified as an aggravated assault.

Investigators have interviewed two people but determined they were not suspects in the case, according to information from the GPD.

The agency also concluded that the public is not in danger following the incident.


UPDATE, 3:00 p.m.

Greeneville Police said an altercation at around noon on Wednesday did involve shots being fired but police cannot confirm at this point if the victim was hit.

A total of four suspects are being sought as a result of the incident that took place at a home on Tennessee Avenue and two of the suspects are now in police custody for questioning. No charges have been filed at this time.

Surveillance footage from a nearby home that shows the getaway vehicle is currently being reviewed.

Preliminary information from police indicates the suspects are juveniles.


UPDATE, 12:50 p.m.

Police updated the location of the shooting incident. Investigators are at 104 Tennessee Avenue.

The victim of the incident is currently listed as stable and is cooperating with police, the report said.

The statement also noted that the suspects fled the scene in a black vehicle and were traveling toward Greeneville.


UPDATE, 12:40 p.m.

Greeneville police are reporting three suspects are being sought in the shooting.

They are described as three young black males in their mid to late teens with no facial hair.

The report said the men were dressed in black.


The Greeneville, Tennessee Police Department has reported a shooting in the area of East Church Street on Wednesday afternoon.

As a precaution, schools in the city are being placed on lockdown while the investigation continues, according to the report.
