A Bristol, Virginia teenager who had just moved to Florida was killed Sunday night and state police are searching for his killer.

NBC affiliate WFLA reported that Zachary O'Bry, 19, was left to die after a maroon SUV hit him as he tried to cross US 41 Sunday night in Venice, Florida just after 11:30 p.m.

Zachary's mother Roberta O'Bry told the station that he was born in Venice and had returned to the town to "make a life for himself." She also said that he was a caring person who always put others before himself including helping the homeless.

The Florida Highway Patrol has been looking for any video footage from the scene and asking local auto body shops to report any possible suspects in the case who come in with front-end damage.

A co-worker of Roberta's at Teleperformance of Bristol, Tennessee told News 5 on Wednesday that her fellow workers have come forward with donations to help the family pay for Zachary's funeral.
