Former police chaplain in Johnson City accused of raping juvenile more than 100 times
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. —
News 5 has obtained new information on a former police chaplain in Johnson City who is accused of raping a juvenile more than 100 times.
The case against Anthony Padgett is proceeding to the grand jury after he waived preliminary hearings on the evidence. Police Major Debbie Botelho confirmed to News 5 that Padgett is a former volunteer police chaplain but that the Jonesborough resident hasn’t been active for several years.
Earlier this week, he appeared in court on a charge of violating a protection order. That order involved a woman who is an adult now but claims she was raped by Padgett more than 100 times starting at age 15.
Court records show Padgett was served warrants charging him with multiple sex crimes, including statutory rape.
