Kane comes to King: Knox County Mayor, WWE superstar Glenn Jacobs guest speaker in Bristol
The latest professional wrestler to claim a political victory outside the ring has been tapped to address King University's graduating class this weekend.
Knox County, Tennessee Mayor and World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Glenn Jacobs, known in the squared-circle as Kane, is scheduled to be the commencement speaker for the more than 450 graduates at Viking Hall on Saturday, the school announced.
The Mountain Empire is familiar territory for Jacobs, who has been wrestling since 1992 when he debuted for Smoky Mountain Wrestling and was soon called up to WWE where he was introduced to the wrestling world as evil dentist Issac Yankem, DDS.
Jacobs was elected to public office for the first time in August with a campaign that included appearances from his co-workers including 16-time World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair. He and his wife are active in an organization called 'Kane's Crusaders' - a group that works with chronically ill teens throughout East Tennessee.
