The Linn Cove Viaduct section of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Grandfather Mountain will be undergoing repaving and bridge maintenance beginning March 1, according to a report from the National Park Service.

The unique stretch of highway that wraps around the contours of the mountain in North Carolina will remain closed through May and weather permitting, the corridor will reopen on Memorial Day weekend, the report said.

All access areas including a walking trail that beneath the viaduct will be closed to the public and ensure the safety of visitors and workers, according to the NPS release.

The detour will be put in place in place from milepost 298.6 (Holloway Mountain Road) to milepost 305.1 (US 221). Crews plan to remove and replace asphalt pavement, waterproof membrane and joints on the bridge, the report said.
