Renovations planned for Heartwood artisan center in Abingdon
ABINGDON, Va. —
Officials with Heartwood: Southwest Virginia's Artisan Gateway center in Abingdon announced plans for a renovation effort that will have the facility closed for a portion of 2019's first quarter.
The marketplace, which highlights local crafts and items handcrafted by local residents that is paired with a cafe and musical entertainment, will undergo changes after January 1 that will feature "a renewed image focused on telling the unique story of Southwest Virginia's culture and heritage," the report said.
The changes are precipitated by research into the facility, according to Friends of Southwest Virginia Executive Director Chris Cannon, and feedback given by visitors, market vendors and folks in the region.
Plans will be announced in the coming weeks for a program designed to help the artisans during the renovations that center officials say will be completed in March celebrated with a weekend festival.
