School bus driver charged in crash near Sullivan Central High School
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. —
A school bus driver has been charged in a Tuesday morning crash near Sullivan Central High School which sent a woman to the hospital.
George Cole is currently charged with failure to yield right-of-way. There was also a charge of violation of financial responsibility (expired) listed by Tennessee Highway Patrol. We are working to find out more about the financial responsibility charge. Tennessee Highway Patrol said the only proof of insurance Cole showed was expired. It is unknown if the insurance is up to date at this time.
Authorities said the Blue Bird school bus owned by C & S Transit Inc. was making a left turn from Highway 126 onto Shipley Ferry Road. A Toyota Camry was headed eastbound on Highway 126, approaching Shipley Ferry Road. The bus then pulled into the path of the Camry, causing the crash. The driver of the Camry was extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the crash. No students were on the bus.
