Tennessee economic and community development officials announced 13 counties including Hawkins will receive new broadband projects after allocating more than $9 million in funding.

The report said Scott County Telephone Cooperative will be receiving $1.9 million to install the fiber optic technology in Surgoinsville.

"In communities across Tennessee, broadband is an essential service that will increase economic investment and growth to help businesses, families and individuals thrive," said Gov. Bill Haslam in a prepared statement.

Grantees will provide more than $10 million in matching funds for a combined investment of more than $20 million across the state, the report said.
